August 28th, Friday- Critical Mass: “Come because group rides are fun. Come because making people on bikes visible is important. This month, Critical Mass returns to its roots – this will be less of a social ride, and more of a protest ride. We’ll take the road, the way Critical Mass was meant to be.
Come for the bells, music, conversation, exercise, community, and the chance to experience Edmonton differently for an evening.
Whether you ride for transportation, recreation, affordability, independence, exercise, or simply the joy of it, you are invited to join us.
This ride comes at an important moment.
Provincial legislation threatening municipal control over bike infrastructure is approaching. Edmonton is debating whether to scale back its own network expansion. Showing up makes the people who use and support this infrastructure visible.
And this month, Critical Mass will also help us prepare for what comes next.”

You do not need to participate in Week Without Bike Lanes to attend.”

August 31st to September 6th – Week Without Bike Lanes: “Bike lanes do not create traffic congestion.
They create separation.
If separated bike infrastructure disappears, the people riding to work, school, shops, appointments, recreation, and everything else do not disappear with it.
They move into regular traffic lanes.
During the first week of September, we will invite Edmontonians to continue making their normal trips by bike while avoiding bike lanes and separated cycling infrastructure wherever they can safely do so.
Participants will follow the law carefully.
Complete stops.
Single-file riding.
Clear signals.
Safe lane positioning.
Respect for pedestrians.
Predictable behaviour.
The goal is not to deliberately create congestion or antagonize drivers.
We want the normal consequences of mixing bicycles and motor vehicles in the same space to make the point:
Bike lanes improve safety for everyone—and they keep traffic moving.
At Critical Mass on August 28, we will include training on how to safely ride in traffic and take the lane when appropriate.”
