July 4th, Saturday – Women in Black Vigil for Non-Violence: Women in Black formed in 1988 and since then has expanded to 100,000 women worldwide. Women in Black Edmonton formed in 2003. Our silent vigils remind us of the power of nonviolence in a world where violence can destroy lives in our homes, streets, and regions. Please join us.
This is a bi-weekly event on the first and third Saturday of the month.

July 6th, Monday – No to Condos on Sacred Grounds: “Register to speak remotely or in-person or simply come to City Hall Council Chamber at 9:30am Monday, July 6 to support others speaking about the protection of a sacred site in Rossdale. City Council will vote on what is the “best use” of the area outlined in red. City administration says the best use is condos despite this area being known as a burial site for many different First Nation and Métis peoples and as a very significant historical place. City administration also has future plans to support more development in Rossdale including rezoning the area circled in orange for condos and a developed promenade called Touch the Water from Rossdale past the Groat Road Bridge along the river. By a series of proposals, each building on the one before, city administration has plans to extract our collective ecology, climate resilience, culture, history, and spirit of the North Saskatchewan River watershed for economic gain. Participate on July 6 and prevent the first domino from falling.
Through education, we can protect and honour this area of Rossdale culturally, but we can also protect it legally with options such as an Indigenous-led protected area and as a National Historic Site. July 6th, Monday – Solar Soiree: SPICE (Solar Power Investment Cooperative Edmonton) is seeking community support and investment so that they can install more solar installations across Edmonton.
You are invited to come out to this wine and cheese information evening to learn more about their goals and how you can pool your money with others to make a BIG difference in the world.

July 11th, Saturday – Humanity Co-op – Public Meeting: “I have a goal of a better world, a peaceful world, in which every human on the planet has enough to live comfortably and is working for an even better world for future generations.
The above is the personal goal of every member of The Humanity Co-op. There are members on five continents. The cost of membership is not monetary; it is only a willingness to make the above goal also your personal goal. While we encourage co-operation, each member is free to decide whom, if anyone they want to work with, as well as what they will do and how they will do it, as they work towards this goal.
A small group of Humanity Co-op members are active locally. Many people in the Edmonton Area do not have enough to live comfortably. Most, would like good paying jobs. In a money-focused world where employers often think of employees as an expense to be minimized, employees find themselves competing for good paying jobs. Advances in artificial intelligence, robotics and other technologies are offering employers less expensive alternatives to human employees. Unless we change the way we think, there will be even fewer jobs with even less pay in the near future. Let’s change the way we think! Let’s understand that:
1. Our standard of living depends, not on money, but on our productivity. If we spend money to employ someone to create more value, the expense does not make us poorer, the added productivity makes us richer.
2. Money, by itself, has no value. Work, by itself, has value. If we were all given a huge inheritance and all decided to stop working, we would all starve. We don’t need the money. We need the value created by our work.
3. Our employers pay our wages with money that they get by selling the goods and services that we produce to us and to other people like us. We already pay each other’s wages.
Let’s start thinking like members of a cooperative community. There’s lots to do. Let’s create co-op businesses where we are owners as well as employees, and customers. (It’s been done before.
