Videos of the Week

March 27th, Thursday – RAISE YOUR VOICE AND TAKE A STAND: “As the Israeli regime kills our truth-tellers and America kidnaps our justice-seekers, we all need to speak up!
Repression and censorship is not far off. Our own institutions are relentlessly targeting the students and faculty that stand for justice. It’s time to take a stand.
The students are calling you to stand with us and flood the streets. We will not be intimidated and WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED!
Bring your signs and kuffiyehs and join us on Thursday.

March 27th, Thursday – Edmonton for Palestine:
Time: 4 – 6 pm
Location: Pride Corner, 104th Street and Whyte (82nd Avenue)

March 27th & 28th – PIA Conference: Community in Perilous Times: “Building community power is the only way we are going to build the Alberta we all want and deserve.
These days we can all feel it. We live in perilous times and there are no silver bullet solutions in the fight back. From rampant attacks on healthcare, education, and social services to relentless cuts and privatization, things are getting harder and harder for everyday Albertans. Our right wing populist government targets the very institutions and services that make our province work and blames vulnerable communities for the mess they’ve created.
It’s an effective strategy that needs a better response from all of us. And it starts at the community level. In our workplaces, in our community leagues, and in our schools. Our power rests in our relationships and our ability to organize together.”
Time: 9:00 am
Location: Barnett House11010 142 St NW
Registration/More information: Public Information Alberta

March 29th, SATURDAY – March for Palestine: Join us and rally for Palestine as we march through Old Strathcona.
We will attempt to start on time so that people can also attend the Mathios Arkangelo action (they normally start a little later than posted but it will be on for a while so there should be plenty of time for a person to attend and show solidarity with both communities).
Time: 12 noon
Location: Light Horse Park, 10324 85 Avenue

March 29th, Saturday – Justice for Mathios Arkangelo: “Our fight for justice has been a long one, and it’s still far from over. It seems to intentionally drag on…
No autopsy results. No accountability.
The officer is still working.
It’s been almost 9 months now.
We took a break for winter, but we haven’t forgotten.
We still need your support. We cannot let this slide… or it’ll continue to happen.
Please join us:
Bring your own signs if you wish.
Let them hear us. Let them see us.
Justice delayed is not justice denied—unless we stay silent.
Time: 1 pm
Location: Edmonton Police Headquarters, 9620 – 103a Avenue

Why should you show up?
Youth unemployment is holding us back — we NEED jobs.
The climate crisis is urgent — we NEED action.
Together, we can demand good, well-paying green jobs that build a better future for ALL of us! ![]()

April 2nd, Wednesday – Re-Emergence Tour: “Edmonton! For the third year in a row, we are teaming up with @intldayofpink , this time platforming their “Re-Emergence Tour” featuring 2SLGBTQIA+ activist Todd Ross! 💕💖🌸💘
Todd is 2-Spirited, and as such was a victim of the 1950s-1990s “LGBT Purge”. This era saw discriminatory policies by various sectors of society that resulted in queer people being fired without cause from their jobs. Todd was released from the Canadian Military after a forced lie detector test.
In 2016, Todd and fellow purge activists brought a class-action lawsuit against the Government of Canada and won the case in 2017, making it the largest 2SLGBTQIA+ settlement in the world. ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻
Also being celebrated and observed this year is the 35th anniversary of the term “2-Spirit” being adopted by Indigenous leaders, 10 years since the TRC’s 94 Calls To Action and 5 years since the Final Report on MMIWG2S. 🧡
Alongside Todd Ross, 2-Spirit activist and victim of the LGBT Purge, we have local queer activist Gary Simpson (@created_gay) joining us to share some of his story. 🫶
Gary is a long-time supporter of Pride Corner on Whyte. Being a minister of Christianity at a Unitarian Church, he has long provided us with a grounding presence of what loving thy neighbour truly CAN look like, especially when it comes to religion and the queer community. Always showing up with a smile and waving a flag, he is a cherished member of Pride Corner. ✨🌈”

April 2nd, Wednesday – Canadian Pensions and the Climate Crisis: It’s time for pension funds to lead on climate: “Join Shift: Action for Pension Wealth and Planet Health for a presentation of key insights from Shift’s annual Canadian Pension Climate Report Card, released in February 2025. Runaway global heating and destabilizing planetary systems would threaten our pension funds’ ability to meet their long-term obligations to Canadians.
Shift’s report analyses eleven major Canadian pension funds – collectively managing $2.4 trillion in retirement savings – to assess how prepared they are to meet the climate challenge.
This third edition reveals Canada’s pension sector building internal climate expertise, beginning to help portfolio companies decarbonize, and moving towards strengthening fossil fuel exclusions. However, the report also exposes a troubling divergence between leading and lagging institutions – and reveals which of Canada’s pension giants are well-positioned to step up as political headwinds and worsening climate impacts test their resolve.
In this engaging session, we’ll dive into our findings, outline the critical steps pension funds must take on climate, showcase promising examples from Canadian and international funds, and call on Canadian pension managers to take a leadership role on climate. The systemic risk posed by climate change is an existential threat to pension funds.
As changing political tides threaten to hinder climate progress, pension funds must stand firm on their climate commitments and advocate for the policies and regulation that will protect our retirement savings in the face of this threat. Join us to learn more.

April 8th, Tuesday – Unpacking the Report! Polluting Education: The Influence of Fossil Fuels on Children’s Education in Canada: “Did you know fossil fuel companies are shaping what kids learn about climate change in schools? A new report from CAPE and For Our Kids, “Polluting Education: The Influence of Fossil Fuels on Children’s Education in Canada,” reveals that at least 39 oil and gas companies are funding or developing K-12 environmental and climate-related materials in our schools. These resources downplay the fossil fuel industry’s role in climate change, exaggerate oil and gas’ pro-environmental actions, emphasize individual responsibility over systemic solutions, and shift responsibility away from fossil fuel polluters.
Join us for a live webinar and panel discussion featuring beloved children’s entertainer Raffi, climate and mental health expert Britt Wray, and the report’s authors, Anne Keary and Jennifer Chesnut. Together, we’ll unpack the report’s findings, explore how fossil fuel influence is undermining climate education, and discuss how we can take action and demand fossil fuel free education for our kids.”
