May 11th – 17th – Pledge the Defend Rainbow Equality: “We invite Canadian politicians, public figures and community leaders to take the Pledge the Defend Rainbow Equality. This pledge was designed by the Society of Queer Momentum as part of a National Rainbow Week of Action taking place from May 11th to 17th 2024. During this week of action, thousands of Canadians will be coming together to speak up for rainbow equality, against rising hate, and a more free and equal future for all our families.
As we see anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate rise, elected officials and others in positions of influence have an important role to play to show our support for human rights and equality.”

May 20th, Monday – World Bee Day: We have all heard the campaign – “Save the Bees”. But what kind of bees should be saved. The honey industry wants us to focus on their bees (#Honeybees) and their profits. Usually it is pesticides and habitat destruction that causes the greatest decline of bee populations. They need to be fighting the corporations that are wedded those destructive paths.
What should be promoted is “Save the Pollinators”. The two other types of bees should also be protected (#Solitarybees and #Bumblebees). Along with honeybees, they are being decimated by pesticides, habitat loss, and competition with honeybees for the flowers. More honeybees in an area – less forage for the wild bees (the ones that the industry is not overly concerned with).
Plant native species and flowers in your yard.

May 25th, Saturday – 5th Global Mothers Rebellion: “The climate crisis is not slowing down and temperatures are rising all over the planer. Mothers Rebellion is busy planning our fifth global action which will be held on the 25th of May, marking Africa Day. On this day we will amplify the voices of our sisters in Africa.”
“The mothers of the world won’t look away, they refuse to give up, and they will do everything they can to get climate justice for their children.
That was the message delivered by rebel mothers in 62 cities across 20 countries the day before much of the world celebrated Mother’s Day. They sat in outward-facing circles in public spaces, holding signs with the names of their children, and were joined by grandmothers, aunties, nieces, sisters, children, and other allies.
Each circle was different—some quiet and contemplative, some including dance and song, others holding climate story-times for children or pram parades!”

May 25th, Saturday – Enough Is Enough UCP: “We’re here to unite concerned citizens of Alberta in a movement against the current government, the United Conservative Party (UCP), because Enough is Enough.
We believe the UCP has let us down across various fronts, failing to prioritize the needs of everyday Albertans. Whether it’s healthcare, electricity pricing, forest management, climate change, education, housing, the cost of living, renewables, or any other issue affecting our province, we share a common frustration: our government isn’t working for us.
It’s time for change. It’s time for a government that truly represents the interests of all Albertans, present, and future. Join us as we mobilize and demand accountability. This is democracy in action.
Enough is Enough! Together, let’s make our voices heard and build a better future for Alberta.”

May 25th, Saturday – Pilgrimage for Peace in Gaza: “The Gaza ceasefire pilgrimage, has been initiated by Christian communities globally as a prayerful act of solidarity amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza. This symbolic gesture aims to promote peace and demonstrates our commitment to supporting the people of Gaza during these challenging times. As described on the official website, the Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimage is a meditative immersion into the suffering experienced by the people of Palestine. Each step taken is a prayer for every life lost since the occupation re-entered the news cycle following the tragedy of October7th, 2023.
We’ve chosen to organize a 4 km walk here in Edmonton to represent the 41 km length of Gaza. It’s a gesture of solidarity with those who’ve been displaced from their homes, compelled to traverse long distances in search of safety and refuge, and have tragically lost loved ones along the way. Please consider joining us.
Please wear white as a sign of peace.“
