Video of the Week
Most people could not look another person in the eye and say – I condemn you to death because….

April 25th – 30th – Letter Writing Campaign: “In less than a week, the Edmonton Public School Board will decide whether to re-establish armed police officers in our public schools. We need your help right now to make sure this doesn’t happen.
Public schools are struggling and under-resourced because of UCP cuts. With fewer teachers and educational assistants, unmanageably large class sizes, and a lack of counseling and student mental health supports, our schools are under more stress than ever before.
We all want our schools to be safe. Cutting teachers and EAs and then adding armed police officers is not the way to do this.
Edmonton Public School Board has called a special meeting for April 30 to consider a motion to bring armed police officers back into our schools. They are also debating giving future decisions regarding police in schools over to the Superintendent, out of the hands of democratically elected representatives. Given significant issues with police accountability in Edmonton, this is a deeply troubling prospect.
Research shows that this will have negative consequences for racialized, Indigenous, low-income, and special needs students and erode efforts towards creating safe and caring learning environments. (Source 1; Source 2; Source 3; Source 4; Source 5; Source 6)
Please send your trustee a quick message to let them know you do not support armed officers in schools.

The fact that this number isn’t coming down is shows that employers aren’t particularly concerned with ensuring worker safety. There are many laws in place that should ensure worker safety but we are not seeing the incident rates drop like we were promised. May 25th, Saturday – 5th Global Mothers Rebellion: “The climate crisis is not slowing down and temperatures are rising all over the planer. Mothers Rebellion is busy planning our fifth global action which will be held on the 25th of May, marking Africa Day. On this day we will amplify the voices of our sisters in Africa.”
“The mothers of the world won’t look away, they refuse to give up, and they will do everything they can to get climate justice for their children.
That was the message delivered by rebel mothers in 62 cities across 20 countries the day before much of the world celebrated Mother’s Day. They sat in outward-facing circles in public spaces, holding signs with the names of their children, and were joined by grandmothers, aunties, nieces, sisters, children, and other allies.
Each circle was different—some quiet and contemplative, some including dance and song, others holding climate story-times for children or pram parades!”
I am unaware if anything is yet planned here in Edmonton. I encourage people to set things in motion to show solidarity and raise awareness. Here is a link to help guide you through the process.

May 25th, Saturday – Enough Is Enough UCP: “We’re here to unite concerned citizens of Alberta in a movement against the current government, the United Conservative Party (UCP), because Enough is Enough.
We believe the UCP has let us down across various fronts, failing to prioritize the needs of everyday Albertans. Whether it’s healthcare, electricity pricing, forest management, climate change, education, housing, the cost of living, renewables, or any other issue affecting our province, we share a common frustration: our government isn’t working for us.
It’s time for change. It’s time for a government that truly represents the interests of all Albertans, present, and future. Join us as we mobilize and demand accountability. This is democracy in action.
Enough is Enough! Together, let’s make our voices heard and build a better future for Alberta.”
This event will be part of a province-wide day of action.
