Transportation

Bike Edmonton (formerly Edmonton Bicycle Commuters – EBC) – was formed in 1980 and was Canada’s first community bicycle workshop space. A little short on advocacy but do a great job on community programs.
Paths for People – “Connecting Edmontonians with efforts and events to create a more livable city. We strive to help Edmonton become a multi-modal city where active transportation is a safe, accessible, year-round option for all.
Human-centred by design.”
Jane’s Walk Edmonton – “On the first weekend of May every year, Jane’s Walk festivals take place in hundreds of cities across the globe.  Jane’s Walks encourage people to share stories about their neighbourhoods, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours.”
Semi-Social Cycling Club – we are a bike club in Edmonton for people who want to socialize but not that much
Peace Avenue Bike Club – “We believe cycling has the power to transform lives and communities. We are committed to making it accessible and enjoyable for everyone.”
LetsBikeThereYEG – Started by a group of Edmonton moms using cargo bikes to carry kids/groceries/whatever, we are a group for people wanting to bike for the everyday.
Urban Affairs – “A sovereign e-magazine within a united publishing house.”
#yegbike – Twitter hashtag chat about what is happening in the bicycling world in Edmonton.
#yegwalk – Twitter hashtag chat about what is happening in the bicycling world in Edmonton. Also, Ian Holster is a good account to follow on this issue.
Michael Janz – city of Edmonton councillor that is doing a fine job of ensuring that bicycles are on the agenda.

Bicycle Storage at LRT Station

The City of Edmonton allows people to take their bicycles on trains and on busses (though there are only two spaces for bicycles on each bus so it can be a hit and miss adventure). They have installed bicycle storage facilities at Century Park (you can get a swipe card from this site) and Belvedere stations.
I think this policy smacks of elitism since people with non-electric scooters are not permitted on the LRT or busses.

More things to add to the pot
  • Climate Town – Canadian person that does some good videos on town planning, transportation, and such. Also check out the Climate Town Twitter Account.
  • Brent Toderian – “City planner + urbanist leading @TODUrbanWORKS. Global cities advisor. Past Vancouver chief planner. Past/founding @CanUrbanism president. Speaker. . Also check out the their Twitter account.
  • Tom Flood – “Strategy/Creative/Consulting @ rovélo creative. Lectures, workshops and writing but mostly listening to the Mary Chain and trying to catch up on vacuuming.” – Great commentary with good humour.
  • Shifter – “We love bikes. We love cities. We love what bikes can do for cities. We’re furthering the conversation about the ways bicycles can make our lives better.” Excellent videos on bicycles, how-to, equipment reviews, etc.

When I figure out the transit/bus activist information I will add that to this list. I am open to help on this. Thanks
