What a stain on the human character! Racism is a manufactured and learned discrimination based on some difference. Whether that difference is skin colour, religion, ethnicity, etc it all destroys a healthy.
It is not enough to not be a racist, you need to be an anti-racist.
Jane Elliott has been an inspiration to be regarding racism. She frames it so that people (white people) can understand it. A simple question and the answer reveals the truth we all know and live.
John Humphrey Centre – is centred around human rights and racism/discrimination is counter to this core value of the organisation.
The Centre for Race and Culture (CRAC) – is a trusted source for generating, gathering, and sharing reliable and accurate information on anti-racism.
The Anglican Diocesan of Edmonton – has a good listing of books on their site with links to the Edmonton Public Library which they created through their Anti-Racist Book Club.
Edmonton Anti-Black Racism Tool Kit – written by Bashir Mohamed an Edmonton based anti-racist activist.
Black Lives Matter Edmonton – created after the George Floyd killing and staged several events to highlight that racism and discrimination against black people exist in Edmonton. They also have a good website and some resources on Defund the Police.
City of Edmonton’s Anti-Racism Strategy – the city has embarked on a strategy to reduce the incidences of racism in Edmonton. Unfortunately, it seems like one of those feel-good initiatives without having much substance – for instance, most people understand that such organizations as law enforcement have systemic racism throughout their ranks. The same is true of the military. If the city does not take a strong and courageous investigation of the racism in the police force then they are inflicting even more damage onto those of the BIPOC community. We will be watching.
Many churches have some aspect of Anti-Racism as part of their belief system.
