This was forward thinking by a Progressive Conservative government. That fund has stagnated and been mismanaged by Conservative governments that followed.
Meanwhile, Norway did something some very similar and their fund is worth over a TRILLION dollars.

June 13th to June 30th – Hunger Strike: “Beginning Thursday May 22, people in amiskwaciwâskahikan (edmonton) are joining others around the world in a 40-day fast in solidarity with people in Gaza. Initiated by @veteransforpeace with over 20 organizations co-sponsoring, “40 Days And Escalate!” is a protest against the escalated total siege of Gaza and a renewed commitment to do everything we can to end the most immediate threats to Palestinian survival (genocide), and work longer-term to end the Occupation.
Israel has blocked all food, water, medicine, shelters, and other supplies while escalating bombing, mass displacements, and ground invasion, and attacking aid ships attempting to provide humanitarian supplies via sea.
Our purpose of this 40 days of action is to (1) highlight Israel’s reprehensible engineered starvation and siege, and (2) the Canadian government’s failure to take meaningful action to stop the genocide. We can’t be silent and let genocide be normalized.
We demand action to break through Israel’s siege, so humanitarian aid can get into Gaza under UN authority; and that Canada enact a full arms embargo. We and other complicit nation-states must stop arming Israel NOW!
Throughout this 40 day fast we aim to have a public presence in different locations around the city, and to organize community conversations about what we can do, now and in the long term, to press not only for the necessary immediate actions to stop the genocide but also for full decolonization and an end to the Occupation.
If you want to join for one meal, one day, or any part of the 4-day period, see our signup form linked from our bio.”

June 15th, Sunday – Hands Off Our Water: CALGARY “The G7 Leaders Summit is gathering in Kananaskis this June to discuss and decide our future. Despite numerous commitments to act on climate priorities, our governments fail to live up to their promises and allow extractive industries to degrade and contaminate land and water for profit.
Water sustains all of us, and yet Indigenous communities are disproportionately experiencing the impacts of water mismanagement, while also being denied fundamental water and self-governance rights.
Join us for a G7 rally on June 15th 12-2PM to stand with the Indigenous peoples of Treaty 7 and beyond, and tell G7 leaders: HANDS OFF OUR WATER!
This rally is co-organized by Calgary Climate Hub, Keepers of the Water, Indigenous Climate Action, Piikani Nation Members, Migrante Alberta, Jubilee, Justice for Palestinians, and CUPE, with support from Reconciliation Action Group and We’re Together Ending Poverty.”

June 29th, Sunday – Canada Unity Rally: “Albertans who believe in a strong, united Canada will gather amid growing separatist rhetoric for the Canada Unity Rally, a public event advocating for Alberta’s place within Canada.
Organized by the Spruce Grove-Stony Plain Alberta NDP Constituency Association, the rally is a call to action for community members to declare their commitment to a free and unified Canada. Proud Canadians will have the opportunity to stand together and urge political leaders to resist divisive narratives that threaten national cohesion. We are calling for MLA Searle Turton to stand up for unity.
If you can join us, we ask that you come loud and proud! Bring your Canadian flags and be ready to wave them! We will be making a statement that this community stands against division. We encourage you to bring your enthusiasm and your political signs. Whether about Alberta’s future or the values that make Canada stronger together.
We ask that all attendees stick to the sidewalk and make way for pedestrians to still go about their business in the area. We suggest that people do not park in the parking lot at this address and instead try to park nearby.”
I am unsure why we are not having one in Edmonton. I floated the idea but because I am busy with building the coop I do not have the time to dedicate to this worthy cause. Anyone?

We matter.
We deserve the same rights and protections as everyone else. And we won’t stop fighting until we get there.
Love wins, always.
