PSST – the world is getting warmer.
I know that Edmonton has not been hot or warm this summer so far but it is not about our local weather. It is about the trend around the world.
What happens if the bread basket of the Punjab collapses this year due to excessive heat and lack of water? What happens if the AMOC collapses? The heat waves across Europe and across North America.

June 26th to August 18th – Plan for Parks: “The Government of Alberta is gathering input to develop a new Plan for Parks to ensure their long-term sustainability.
Albertans take tremendous pride in our provincial parks and recreation areas. This new strategic plan for the provincial parks system will reflect input from Albertans.
The Government of Alberta remains focused on creating nature-based recreation and camping opportunities, building trails and facilities and ensuring the long-term success of the parks system in an environmentally responsible way.
In 1930, the Provincial Parks and Protected Areas Act was enacted, leading to the establishment of Alberta’s first provincial parks. Today, provincial parks and recreation areas are established and administered through the Provincial Parks Act.
By sharing your input, you will help shape how future generations interact with and enjoy Alberta’s parks.”

Eat less meat and eat more beans.

John Oliver gives an excellent rant about the UK election on July 4th, 2024

July 4th, Thursday – Election in the UK: Why does this matter to us here in Canada? A lot of decisions for investment in fossil fuels are made in London. If the government moves more left (more socially and environmentally elected politicians) it will send a message to other countries.
Right now, in Canada, the Conservatives are lined up (according to the polls) to win the next federal election. We have a job to do. We need to ensure that the Conservative, capitalistic, and neo-liberal mindset does not get that chance. We can see what it has done in the UK over 14 years and the consequences of a Republican/Trump win in the USA is extremely scary.
I want to see more Liberal-Democrats and Greens win in the UK and that they hold the balance of decisions and that will allow more social and environmental decisions being made.
